descriptive text




1.      The Definition and Purpose of Descriptive Text :

Descriptive text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing. 



2.     The Generic Structure of Descriptive Text

Descriptive text has structure as below:                      
Identification; identifying the phenomenon to be described.
Description; describing the phenomecharacteristicsnon in parts, qualities, or/and.



3.     The Language Feature of Descriptive Text

·        Using attributive and identifying process.

·        Using adjective and classifiers in nominal group.

·        Using simple present tense



4.     Writing Descriptive

Descriptive writing describes an object, place, or person in a way that creates a vivid impression in the reader's mind, enabling the reader to visualize what is being described, and to feel that he/she is very much part of the writer's experience.



5.           Guidelines

No matter how the description is used, the following guidelines for good descriptive writing will help. Students should

          include plenty of details;

          use figurative language, if appropriate;

          organize details;

          show, not tell;

          use precise language.



6.    Descriptive text usability

Descriptive writing appears almost everywhere, from cookbooks to poems. A writer might use a description to introduce a character in a narrative or to create a strong closing to a persuasive essay. Whatever the form, its purpose is to describe.
